As resident of Townhomes at Chapel Watch Village, you know that late summer is a hot time of year in Chapel Hill. With heat indexes reaching 100 on a regular basis, heat illness can be a serious problem. To keep yourself and your family safe, learn to practice heat safety. If you are looking for a way to cool down and beat the heat without getting stir crazy at home, here are 3 things you can do right here in Chapel Hill:
Take a Swim!
Chapel Hill has a number of excellent pools, including the A.D. Clark pool at the Hargraves Community Center and the indoor pool at the Chapel Hill Community Center. Families appreciate the zero-depth entrance and shallower waters of the Homestead Aquatic Center. Of course, as a resident of the Townhomes at Chapel Watch Village, you have your own saltwater pool on site to provide easy access to a cool, refreshing swim whenever you want!
Visit a Museum
If getting wet isn’t your idea of summer fun, escape from the heat for a few hours in one of our local museums. The Ackland Art Museum is one of these. Located at UNC Chapel Hill, the Ackland Art Museum houses 17,000 works of art. One of the highlights is its Asian art collection as well as a collection of North Carolina pottery. Current exhibits include Politics as Usual, a look at the way artists approach politics, and the photography work of Burk Uzzle.
The historic Horace Williams House, built in 1840, is another interesting place to visit. Restored in 1974, it gives a taste of what life was like in Chapel Hill in the 1800s, yet boasts air conditioning to keep you cool!
Catch a Show
Instead of heading to the pool in the heat of the day, head to the theater. Catch one of the summer blockbusters at the Silverspot Cinema, the Lumina Theater, or head to The ArtsCenter in Carrboro or Memorial Hall for a live musical performance or play. These cool locations are a great way to get out of the summer heat and enjoy some culture at the same time.
As you can see, Chapel Hill has many opportunities for you to beat the heat in late summer! So grab your water bottle to stay hydrated, and head out to enjoy some culture or a cool refreshing swim. Your air-conditioned townhome at the Townhomes of Chapel Watch Village will be waiting when you return.
